Today was all about heading home. Pitkyaranta – Sortavala – Niirala border crossing – Kuopio, total 400km. The weather in the morning was great, sun shining and temp was 20 degrees Celsius.
We had breakfast in the small kitchen of our apartment and then rode the bikes from secure parking to the yard of the apartment. And for the last time on this trip we lubed the chains.
We took off at half past ten and rode on fast paves roads close to lake ladoga. At one point our route would have taken us to a very small road for couple of kilometers but we decided to skip that and continue on bigger roads all the way to Sortavala. There we took a brief sightseeing tour on the bikes and only stopped for road works and traffic lights.
Then we rode on new road to Värtsilä and had lunch there in the Kolmas restaurant.
We also fueled up the bikes and at the gas station this great service guy washed the plates and lights of our bikes.
The border crossing was smooth and only took about 40 mins.
In Finland we mainly ride on paved roads and only a bit on gravel. We used ferry to cross arvinsalmi. Only break we took in Heinävesi.
As usual, the thoughts were on the highlights of the trip. And what a great trip it was! Thank you Aki for being great comrade on the trip!
We did some very challenging sections and I think we both feel we did very well in managing to carry on in a secure way on those trickiest situations.
